Knee-Deep PLAYLIST-Show 458- Earl Scruggs remembered
We mourn the passing of Earl Scruggs, but at the same time, celebrate his life and what his music means to all of us.
We also welcome a brand new advertising partner to the show, JIM MILLS BANJO! Jim has the largest selection of pre-war Gibson Banjos (like Earl Scruggs played) anywhere. Thanks, Jim! I have been proud to call you my friend for the past 30 years and I look forward to working with you.
I also visit with Casey Vanhoy, whose grandfather, H.P. Vanhoy, founded the Union Grove Fiddlers Convention in 1924. The convention grew to be a huge event and ran from 1924 to 1979. Casey has now revived the convention for Easter Weekend. We talk about the history of the event and feature songs recorded at Union Grove over 35 years ago, featuring teenagers Sam Bush & Terry Baucom, as well as AL Wood, LW Lambert, New Deal String Band and more.

Knee-Deep PLAYLIST-Show 456-Buddy Melton profiled
The Mast Farm Inn, located in North Carolina's High Country, sponsors a segment on the show each week to profile a North Carolina Bluegrass artist. This show features a segment on Buddy Melton, lead singer and fiddle player for Balsam Range, who picked up the IBMA Song of the Year Award last year for "Trains I Missed". Buddy was recently severely injured in a farming accident, but we are happy to report that thanks to your prayers and his strong will, he is improving greatly and now able to be in the studio with his band mates to work on the 4th Balsam Range release. I, for one, cannot wait to hear this one!
