Carolina Panthers --WHEW!

John Kasay kicked a 42-yard field goal with one second remaining to give the Panthers a dramatic 33-31 win over the New Orleans Saints. With the victory, Carolina clinched the NFC South division title, claimed the second seed in the NFC and secured a first-round bye in the playoffs.

Hosted by Cindy Baucom (of the nationally syndicated radio show Knee Deep in Bluegrass), the All-Star Jam showcases performances by more than 18 different award-winning bluegrass musicians, including Rob McCoury, Terry Baucom, Jason Carter, Steve Gulley, Kim Fox, Rob Ickes, Missy Raines, Alan Bibey, Mike Compton, Phil Leadbetter, Kenny & Amanda Smith, Tim Stafford, Mike Bub, Michael Cleveland, and Josh Williams. Pickers change from one tune to the next and the performances tend to be spontaneous, providing audiences with a once in a lifetime concert experience.

The show travels to Bristol, VA, the next day, for a Friday evening, January 9th performance at Virginia Intermont College.

Hope You Had A Great Christmas!

Well...it is the day after Christmas. Terry and I finally have some time to relax. It was a wonderful holiday. In fact, we are still celebrating. We listened to Christmas tunes today...many, many cards from our friends and family decorate the wall...the candles are still glowing...the tree is still up...and the Christmas lights are burning. We won't even think about stopping the celebrations until- at least- the day after New Year's.

We spent Christmas Eve in Monroe, NC with Terry's Dad, Mom, Sisters and their families. We had delicious food and a fun time together. Terry and I exchanged gifts later that night. I had heard him mention a couple of times that he would enjoy having a metal detector, so that was one thing I got him. He and I are both huge fans of the Twilight Zone television series, so I got him the complete DVD set (I will enjoy that present as much as him!) He got me some cool tools for the kitchen, a beautiful antique cup and saucer and money to shop for a couple of new dresses.

Christmas Day, we had coffee with Terry's Dad and Mom, then headed out to Ashe County to my hometown of West Jefferson, NC, to spend time with my family. We enjoyed more great food there...ham, chicken, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, green beans, slaw, rolls and a nice variety of desserts. After opening gifts, there was Bluegrass. Terry, my Dad, my brother, Chris and I played some of our favorite Christmas and Bluegrass songs. My son, Houston, got a banjo from Terry and me. He is enjoying the Avett Brothers in Asheville, NC this weekend and again on New Year's Eve in Charlotte. My daughter Molly got make-up, clothes, money...and the youngest, Hunter, got several games, a football, back-pack and lots of Carolina Panthers gear. We spent the night with my Dad and Mom and headed back after breakfast Friday morning. After visiting with more friends on the way home, we got in and had some leftover turkey and turned on ESPN. (There are some great bowl games this weekend...and NFL on Sunday!)

Thanks to all the radio stations that aired the Special Christmas Edition of 'Knee-Deep In Bluegrass'. Terry and I had fun producing this show. We appreciate all the nice comments about the show. Your support means a lot to us, as we work to promote Bluegrass Music. We will be out several times in January with stage shows. I will posting more about those in a day or so. Carolina Loses Heartbreaker To Giants :-(

I had looked forward to this game all week long. It seemed like 8:15 pm Sunday would never get here. That is how much I was anticipating this great football game. The Carolina Panthers and The New York Giants (Super Bowl 42 Champions) had the prime time slot---Sunday Night Football on NBC. With a lot at stake (namely a first-round playoff bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs) the game got underway and The Panthers looked great in the first half. They dominated the first quarter and they dominated the second quarter without question. However (and this is the sad part...) they came out for the second half playing very, very conservatively...ultra-conservatively (if that's even a word...) Why not pass to Steve Smith and Deangelo Williams like you did in the first part of the game? It was working beautifully! The Panthers didn't hold on to their nice lead. They could have won with a John Kasay field goal in the 4th quarter (...and John Kasay's kicking is 'money in the bank'...except for this kick) It looked to be heading directly in the middle of the uprights...then a gust a wind shattered hopes of a win in regulation. During overtime, the Giants won the toss and elected to receive....4 and out...they punted to the Panthers...we couldn't capitalize during our possession. When the Giants got on offense again, they didn't let the victory get away from them. Terry and I were highly disappointed with the loss (we take our football pretty seriously...) Since the Cowboys lost over the weekend, the Panthers did clinch a spot in the playoffs (...and will likely win their division) It is on to New Orleans next to take on the Saints. I now officially put this loss behind us and look to the next game with positive anticipation!~CB
